Azure to AWS migration for APRA-regulated Adelaide businesses
Moving from Azure to AWS is a technical project. For an APRA-regulated entity it is also a change to how critical systems and data are run, so the written plan, security continuity and notification trail matter as much as the cutover itself.

Who this page is for
This short page is for financial services, superannuation, insurance and similar Adelaide and South Australian teams who need a clear commercial answer: what a careful engagement covers, how we work, and where the deep reading lives. The full walkthrough sits in our Azure to AWS APRA migration guide. Broader cloud work is under cloud solutions.
If you are not APRA-regulated, the same migration hygiene still helps. Start with cloud solutions.
What we cover in an engagement
Workload and sensitivity map
What moves, what stays, what is critical, and who owns each system.
Written migration plan before cutover
Sequencing, data transfer path, rollback, and how security controls stay continuous during the window. Nothing is cut over before the plan is written.
Data residency and transit
Australian regions are available on both Azure and AWS; the risk is often poorly documented transit. We specify the path in writing so auditors can see what was intended.
Phased cutover
Parallel running where it reduces the chance of a single big-bang outage, with logging kept on both sides during the transition.
Handover pack
Updated diagrams, access notes, recovery test evidence, and a clear list of what was decommissioned on Azure.
What APRA cares about
APRA does not pick your cloud vendor. It expects you to keep information security and operational resilience in step with the risk while you change how services are delivered. These are the standards we plan against (always confirm with your own risk or legal counsel for your licence type):
- CPS 234 Information Security: maintain an information security capability commensurate with the threats to your information assets, including assets managed by third parties, and notify APRA of material information security incidents (APRA: as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after becoming aware, where the standard's thresholds are met).
- CPS 230 Operational Risk Management: in force from 1 July 2025; covers critical operations, business continuity and material service-provider arrangements. APRA has rescinded the older cloud outsourcing information paper in light of CPS 230. Notification rules for new or changed material arrangements and for material offshoring are in CPS 230, including the electronic notification forms APRA published.
Older references to SPS 231 / CPS 231 outsourcing standards are superseded for entities now under CPS 230. This page is not formal advice.
What we will not do
- Lift-and-shift without a written plan
- Promise that "Sydney region by default" keeps every AWS service in Australia (some services need explicit configuration)
- Quote fixed weeks or fees before we have seen your workload map
- Pretend this page replaces your CPS 234 / CPS 230 obligations or legal advice
Timeline and cost depend on workload mix, data volume and how much of the environment is already documented. After a free chat we will say whether your case looks straightforward or complicated, and what a realistic next step is.
Related work when the migration surfaces application gaps: custom software for process systems that do not fit the new estate cleanly, and AI automation only where a repetitive ops path is worth automating after the move.
How we work with your risk and audit teams
You own the notifications
You (or your counsel) own APRA notifications and board reporting. We produce the technical and operational artefacts those teams need: plans, residency notes, control continuity and evidence from testing.
Documentation an auditor can read
Plans and handover notes are written in plain Australian English, not engineer shorthand.
Phase, test, then decommission
Workloads move in stages with rollback ready, recovery is tested on AWS, and Azure resources are retired in a documented sequence.
Honest about the alternative
If a simpler stay-on-Azure hardening path is the better commercial answer, we will say so rather than force a migration.
Who this is for
Boards, CIOs, CTOs and risk owners in Adelaide and SA evaluating Azure to AWS; teams more worried about documentation, residency and notification than whether AWS can host the workload; and organisations that want a local partner reachable in Australian business hours during a phased cutover.
